The AGM will be held on Sunday starting at 2.30pm and the Rally will open at 11 o'clock. ________________________________ Shannon River Run Last weekend's Shannon River Run caused what was probably the biggest gathering of EI and GI amateurs on the air ever. Activity was hectic from the off on Friday evening to the close at 1800 on Sunday with 80 metres and 2 metres being the most popular bands. Great credit is due to the net controllers, Noel EI6HW on 80 metres and Martin EI4IJ on 2 metres who both stayed at their posts for the three days. Six cruisers were on the water, three from Portumna and three from Carrick-on-Shannon. EI3SRR operated on the river south of Carrick-on-Shannon and was crewed by members of the North Dublin, Fingal and Phoenix Radio clubs from north Dublin. EI4SRR was also operating south from Carrick and was run by members of the South Dublin Radio Club. EI5SRR was run by members of the Galway VHF Group and operated north from Carrick. EI6SRR, crewed by members of the East Cork Group and Limerick Radio Club worked north from Portumna while EI7SRR and EI8SRR, both crewed by members of the Dalkey Island Group, operated south Portumna. Early indications are that the event was very successful and congratulations are due to Paul EI2CA who organised the operation. ________________________________ Midlands Radio Club AGM The Annual General Meeting of the Midland Radio Club was held recently and the following officers were elected for the coming year. Chairman Noel, EI6HW Secretary Mary, EI2IJ Treasurer Joe, EI7HW Committee members elected were Mike EI3IG, Cyril EI4AGB, Mickey EI5EAB, Martin EI4IJ and Kevin EI3FCB. The Midlands club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 8.30 pm and will move to a new location at the Cubs Den, St. Mary's Hall in Athlone for the May meeting. ________________________________ Cork Radio Club The Annual General Meeting of the Cork Radio Club was held in Wilton Park House, on Monday night March 25th. Mike EI2IB was elected Chairman and the new Secretary is Chris EI6IA. Committee members elected were EI2HY, Frank EI6EVB, Tony Kennedy and Pat EI6DTB. Another committee member will be co-opted. The Jasper Swanton Trophy was awarded to John Kelleher EI8HS for his outstanding contribution to the running of the club over the past number of years. The Jerry Burke Memorial Trophy was awarded to Warren Daly EI6ETB for his great achievement in gaining the WEIC Award by working 20 EI counties on 2 metres during his first year of operating. Plans are almost finalised for the clubs trip to Cape Clear for the IOTA contest and it is also intended to enter the IRTS SSB and VHF Field Days later in the year. ________________________________ Castlecomer Scouts The Scout Group in Castlecomer, County Kilkenny are active on 2 metres each Friday evening from 8pm local time. They operate under the supervision of Pat EI5HR, using his callsign and are usually to be found on S22 or on the Mount Leinster repeater. Several of them are studying for their experimenters examination which they hope to sit next month and we wish them well and look forward to hearing several new callsigns from County Kilkenny in the coming months. ________________________________ PW Editor visits GI and EI The Bangor and District Amateur Radio Society played host to Rob Mannion, Editor of Practical Wireless at their meeting on Friday 12th April 1996 at the Winson Hotel, Queen's Parade, Bangor, Co.
